Why I created a blog

Its been many years since I first created this blog. It has remained true to Essbase and related information over those years. Hopefully it has answered questions and given you insight over those years. I will continue to provide my observations and comments on the ever changing world of EPM. Don't be surprised if the scope of the blog changes and brings in other Hyperion topics.

Things are shaping up

Just a short post here. In OAC; OK I'll digress already. OAC is what used to be called Autonomous or Oracle Managed OAC; you could not change the shape of your instances. Shape refers to the ability to scale up or down the number of OCPUs your instance has.

Sometime in the last little while, apparently Oracle has added this feature back in. You can now increase or decrease the number or OCPUs by instance.

Just open the service console

and drop down the ellipses  next to the instance you want to change.

You can then choose to increase or decrease the OCPUs

Note: this is not an instantaneous change. The instance stops and starts to do this.  While I've not tried, I believe there are REST calls you can use to automate this process, so maybe reduce the OCPUs on Friday night and bump them up on early Monday morning?

This does not allow you to stop and start an instance, but who knows , that might happen in one form or another in the future.
