Why I created a blog

Its been many years since I first created this blog. It has remained true to Essbase and related information over those years. Hopefully it has answered questions and given you insight over those years. I will continue to provide my observations and comments on the ever changing world of EPM. Don't be surprised if the scope of the blog changes and brings in other Hyperion topics.

Essbase 21.3 has been released

In the latest exciting news, Essbase 21.3 has been released today. This release is for the independent version (your data center). The Marketplace (Cloud) version will be available soon.

The Big thing about this release is you can get it in both Windows and Linux versions.

From the readme, yo can see there are some cool enhancements

"New Features and Enhancements

  • Support for Microsoft Windows installation

  • Support for Generic JDBC driver

  • Datasource enhancement

    • Support for substitution variables using Runtime parameters
  • Drill-through enhancements

    • Ability to define mapping when datasource has runtime parameters
    • Support for level 0 mapping of runtime parameters
    • Support for recursive drill-through with runtime parameters
    • Logs include runtime parameters

See Access External Data with Drill Through Reports

  • Hybrid Engine enhancements

    • Improved storage for aggregate storage dynamic hierarchies
  • Member ID enhancements and changes
    • All members now have unique member IDs. In previous releases, shared members and their prototype members had the same member ID.
  • Shared member enhancements or changes
    • Zooming out on a shared member now returns the shared parent. In previous releases, it returned the prototype member. "

    My favorites are:

1.The ability to use Substitution variables in Datasources. I've been asking for that for a while. With this, I can do data loads without having to hard code date ranges, I can set them in variables and then  access them in the load. I've had it where the range changes so now I can specify what I want to load.

    2. Although I've not tested it yet, the recursive drill-through sounds interesting. Again something I've asked for since Essbase Studio. I'm excited to see how it works.

    3. Zooming out on shared members getting the shared parent. This has always been a pain, now it will be easy. I'm sure it came about because of the member Id now being passed to Smart View

As I play with the release more, I'll post what I find
