Not sure what the first conference was called but I believe the year was 1998. Location: how about Orlando, FL (Swan and Dolphin)?
I started attending these in 1997 when they were called "Dimensions". I think they switched to "Solutions" for the 1999 conference. I know the Hyperion User conferences started in at least 1996 but I didn't attend.

Doug, Randy, Nice tries but not quite correct. Someone has gotten the correct answer which I have not posted, but alas, they did it without telling me who they were, I guess I keep the prize.
Hi Glenn,
Anonymous missed:
Arbor Dimensions 1996 - Santa Clara Westin
Arbor Dimensions 1995 - San Francisco Fairmont
I spoke at every one except the 1995 Conference; at that time I was writing demoware for Arbor.

The first? How about 15 through 18 October 1995 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco?
:)
You can't give me any points, though: http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Arbor+Software+hosts+first+international+user+conference%3B+Brings...-a017396547
I'm not going to cheat and look up the bonus part of your question -- it was held in the same place as I recall in 1996.
Btw, 36 sessions at the first Dimensions. Essbase has certainly grown a lot.

Dimensions! My first one was in Santa Clara in 97. They introduced the API and I think Quinlan Eddy gave that presentation. Also that was the year they gave the customer profitability story. I think it was Mars, the candy company. I also remember (perhaps wrongly) that Victor Duarte introduced his Blue Isle tool which was the first automation tool for Essbase.
